Step into a world of adventure and excitement at Cape Weligama. Borderlands Adventure Centre is located on the east beach of Cape Weligama, a brisk 2 - 3 minutes walk away. Or just a few hundred meters west of Weligama village, on the Turtle Bay (also called Jungle Beach) you will find this Outdoor and Water Sports Center, Ocean Safari by Borderlands. This center is only a couple of hundred meters away from Cape Weligama, one of the three hotels in Sri Lanka that belong to the prestigious network of luxury hotels Relais et Châteaux from which the view on Weligama Bay will make you understand why it has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Borderlands Adventure Centre Cape Weligama has their famous Ocean Safari by Borderlands, offers all that you need in term of activities in such an idyllic surrounding. Borderlands Adventure Centre has 4 luxury boats that can take you for a whale watching excursion, a SCUBA diving trip or a Sunset cruise, or a Banana boat ride. They also give surf lessons, offer sea kayaks and canoes, Stand Up Paddles, and Bodyboards. You can also choose to go kayaking or Stand Up Paddling on the river to the lake nearby with one of our local guides. In addition to water related sports, mountain bikes are available for those who prefer land over water. And if you don’t want to choose, it’s even possible to organize a special triathlon, which will take you from Sea Kayaking to River Kayaking to biking!

Borderlands uses modern equipment meeting international standards. Safety and well-being are a top priority. All programs, activities and adventures are operated to strict International Safety Standards. Borderlands guides are First Aid and CPR certified and receive constant on the job training in safety and rescue procedures.

As an official PADI Dive Center, Ocean Safari by Borderlands offers all the range of PADI courses, from Open Water Divers to professional Divemaster. It’s also possible, for those who have never dived before to take an introduction dive, Discover Scuba Diving program which will give you a first impression of the underwater world. Of course, they also take certified divers who want to go fun diving on our daily diving trips in Weligama Bay and can arrange longer trips to the wrecks of Galle.

Plunge into the depths of the ocean to discover a hidden world of colour and life, kayak through the glistening waters or try your hand at SUP boarding. The choice is yours. All activities are accompanied by a trained professional, who will customize the experience for safety and enjoyment.

➤ Banana boat ride

If you can get four or five people together you can take a banana boat ride. The Banana boat ride is an inflatable boat that is shaped just like a banana which is connected to a speedboat which pulls it along the water. It can hold up to 5 people at once and that will definitely get your adrenaline flowing.

➤ Rural Biking

Take a ride through the leafy, scenic back-roads of a typical southern village that lies inland from Weligama. The trail snakes its way alongside lush rice paddies, rubber and cinnamon estates, small holder plantations and home gardens, places of worship, rural homes – several that feature architecture from traditional as well as colonial styles – and other points of interests.

➤ Sea /River Kayaking or SUP Boarding Guided Tour

Weligama wraps itself around a large sunlit bay with a wide sandy beach. The town is close to where the iconic stilt fishermen cast their fishing lines. It is also the perfect place to get a taste of kayak surfing – the surf conditions here are ideal between November and April for a taste of this exciting sport. Sea kayaking around the Weligama bay takes around 4 hours and on route travelers can visit the Mirissa fishing harbor, the clay cliffs of the southern end of the bay and the many reefs and small islands.

➤ Scuba Diving or Beginner Dive Course

A shallow reef and some fantastic rock formations will be the scenery for your SCUBA diving adventure. As an official PADI Dive Center, Ocean Safari by Borderlands offers all the range of PADI courses, from Open Water Divers to professional Divemaster. Their Sports Center, right on Turtle Bay, just out of Weligama town, has an extensive range of SCUBA gear in excellent condition for all sizes (including children, who can enjoy breathing underwater from the age of 8). They provide snorkeling guided tours also. And travelers can rent diving equipment also.

➤ Surf Lessons

Weligama beach with a stretch of 2 kilometer and shallow waters, has no rocks, which makes it very safe for surfing. It’s an excellent place to catch your first wave. Real beginners can try out surfing in the Cape Bay, right in front of our Sports Center. Borderlands team will take the guests and the surfing boards on our truck and drive you to the Weligama Bay. You will receive a personalized lesson from one of our surfing instructors who will make sure that your experience is a memorable one. The distance from the beach to surfing is around 10 meters to 20 meters, and for children is 5 meters.

➤ Ocean Safari & Whale Watching

Borderlands Ocean Safaris give you the opportunity to see blue whales along with sperm whales, orcas, playful spinner and bottlenose dolphins, turtles and whale sharks in their natural environment.
