If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan you’ve probably had this problem before. Needless to say this is very frustrating, and it’s worse when you’re on holiday and aren’t familiar with your surroundings. Vegan food can be hard to come by in locations like Sri Lanka, but luckily some awesome cafes have popped up in Weligama which makes this town a haven for all things plant based. Here are list of best vegan friendly spots you should add to your hit list for your next trip to Weligama.

This cafe and co-working space is 100% vegan and vegetarian, the dream! It serves up the most incredible food in a lush garden setting with cushions, hanging seats and even a tipi. Don’t miss the Kick Start smoothie, the Icy Storm coffee, the avocado on toast, and Ed’s special : mashed banana and peanut butter on toast! To be honest everything on the menu is delicious. The uber popular cafe serves up a whole range of veggie and vegan options, alongside meaty dishes. Travelers loved the avocado on toast with red onion jam, the granola bowl with whipped coconut cream and the falafel nourish bowl. It also has great wi-fi so take your laptop along and get some work done while you eat. A lively lifestyle concept located on the beachfront in Weligama. This cafe serves a damn incredible coconut iced coffee which isn’t to be missed. They also have the staple vegan options; hummus and pita, avocado toast, granola bowls and smoothies. All served in a super relaxed setting. (Please see the below map for the location)

Just round the corner from Nomad, this cafe also has a whole host of vegan options. From juices and smoothie bowls through dhal and desserts. They also have awesome coffee and the typical relaxed Sri Lankan vibes. This place was wonderful for catching up with friends and just a relaxing lunch after the beach. Great food for everyone. Extraordinary bartender who made fresh Lemonades, with a few different flavors on offer. Cafe was famous for the best pine-apple smoothie. (Please see the below map for the location)

Deli Ceylon is a sweet little café that is connected to the beautiful hostel Mudra, close to the center of Weligama. It has awesome variety of smoothies, café and cakes, made with love and good vibes all around. Restaurant serving a variety of vegan dishes including smoothie bowls. Despite it is a restaurant inside Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa resort, it is a restaurant which support various vegan friendly foods. But prices are far different from other cafe's and restaurant. A spacious, all day dining restaurant that has well defined zones, each serving a distinct cuisine and an interactive live kitchen adds to the dining experience. This is a great family run local restaurant. Travelers come here to enjoy some authentic Sri Lankan food. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love it. If you’re a food snob, you’ll hate it. Serves meat, vegan options available. Traditional Sri Lankan restaurant offering a variety of vegetable based dishes including salads, fried rice, noodles, kottu rotti, soups, traditional health curries, and more. Specify vegan. Serves meat, vegan options available. Local food with veggie options. This is a family run restaurant with the most delicious food. The food and service was just so great. The kottu was incredible, super cheap and a huge portion. The veggy rice and curry was perfect, a good mix of spicy and non-spicy. (Please see the below map for the location)

Serves meat, vegan options available. Hostel and cafe since 2015. Serves vegan dishes from breakfast through to dinner. Breakfast options include porridge with coconut milk, bliss balls, vegan smoothie bowl. Lunch and dinner options include a vegan super food bowl and a falafel wrap. Coffee with soy milk and vegan banana bread are served all day. Other vegan meals can possibly be created if requested. Monday and Friday nights are pizza, pasta and salads only. Lebanese vegetarian restaurant offering vegan dishes. The Hummus Bar is rad. The owner is from Lebanon and has a simple tasty cuisine from his home country rolling out for Lunch and Dinner. It fills up and an he had a good selection of coffee and drinks to refresh your afternoon out in Weligama. Food is quality, atmosphere is chill and easy space to hang out with friends, chat or even crank out a little work for the digital nomad taking surf breaks. It is located at the parallel street to the coastal road, so rather not a spot you discover by passing by. It is near to surfing schools. Basic little Rasta restaurant. Amazing service, reasonably fast and very friendly. Good place for breakfast and lunch. Service is not as fast as you may expect, but for that price is reasonable.
