Sri Lanka’s Southern coast is renowned for its world class beaches and relaxed atmosphere. There are dozens of beach towns dotted along the shore, and with that much choice it can be hard to know which one to choose. Perched 100 feet above the Indian Ocean, on one of the most dramatic settings you’ve seen is Cape Weligama. This spectacular boutique resort is located on the headland of Weligama Bay that juts out of the spectacular southern coast of Sri Lanka, only a 30 minute drive from historic Galle. If one were to stand at the tip of the cape, there would be nothing standing in your way between Sri Lanka and the south pole. The road leading up the property trails along tiny lane ways and through charming residential neighborhoods, allowing you a glimpse of authentic Sri Lankan life.
Cape Weligama - Sri Lanka's Best and Largest Luxury Villa Resort

Cape Weligama : At a Glance

Cape Weligama has so much more to offer than its breath-taking panoramic ocean views. It is a fantastic luxury resort with very spacious, terracotta-roofed villas all named after famous Ceylon explorers. Stunning panoramas naturally complement all 39 private retreats designed by one of Asia’s most celebrated architects, Lek Bunnag. An array of international dining venues captures Weligama’s iconic sunsets, as does the 60 meter crescent-shaped infinity pool that appears to flow seamlessly into the shimmering sea. Earthy hues and crisp white linens are the lovely finishing touches to these villas, ranging in size from one-bedroom villa up to the two-storey Cape Weligama residences that are perfect for families. The villas are clustered in groups of 3 or 4 in spacious gardens, each with their own infinity pool to share, meaning you can have privacy in your private pool or enjoy the stunning ocean views from the spectacular main pool. There is also access to a beach from the hotel and a fully equipped gym.

Service & Facilities in Cape Weligama

There are no on-call butlers yet room service is seamless and the staff are prompt when responding to requests. The chefs visibly engage with guests in the restaurant. The 60-metre crescent-shaped Moon Pool for the over 12s champions the most spectacular coastal views. Below is a well-equipped gym and a casual surf bar that spills onto a terrace where pathways lead to magical ocean lookout spots. Cape Weligama’s suites and villas are dotted across the 12 acres of tropical gardens, providing privacy and solitude. All have large terraces, oversized stone baths and steam rooms, while villas benefit from semi-private pools. The rooms themselves are some of the most capacious around, with beds big enough for entire families and elegant, beach-inspired interiors. Common to all room types are distinct custom-designed furnishings, plush linen on king-sized or twin beds and understated bathrooms with walk-in steam rooms/showers and freestanding bathtubs. The starting category suites sit next to the lower family pool and have quite limited sea views. All room categories come with wi-fi, Sonos Sound bars, tea & coffee making facilities, mini-bar, hair dryer, safe deposit box, flat screen tv, cable channels, in-house movie entertainment, telephone, bathroom amenities, bathrobes, slippers, bath tubs, steam room.

Villas offer more privacy and potentially better views depending upon the type you book, yet are all extremely spacious – hallways lead to a vast bedroom and into a similarly huge bathroom with a walk-in wardrobe, and their big verandas are designed for dining and lounging. Rooms have minibars, coffee machines and tea-making facilities as well as Sonos speakers and a Smart TV loaded with a big collection of categorized movies and television shows.
